Business games are a stimulating & engaging way of improving people’s financial & commercial awareness. Teams are given an organisation to run and need to decide on the financing, the level of investment and resources to use, their cash flow & how to win business or control their expenditure.
The game is played in rounds and uses a “business board” so that participants can plot their performance. Business games are a great introduction to the different functions within a business. It is particularly helpful to delegates in introducing the concepts of Profit & Loss Account (Income Statement) and the importance of good Cash Flow. In addition teams are encouraged to think commercially and plan their strategy as they compete to make their organisation the most successful.
Background to gameplay
The mechanics of the game are based on each team being given an identical pre existing organisation (this will be based on your organisation). Each team then makes operating decisions of its own and plots them on its business board. At the end of each round a set of accounts will be prepared by each team to record their performance.
The game is played in teams of 3-6 people and can be played by anything from 9 to 36 people. It runs over 2 days to include a presentation on “Introduction to Finance” and then one and a half days applying these ideas within their business.
The game is a stimulating and interesting way of learning about the importance and usefulness of financial information & how organisations function. Teams will be highly engaged throughout the sessions and will therefore have a far greater understanding of finance & commercial decision making by the end of the game.
Learning cycle
The game is fully facilitated. At the end of each round our presenter will explain to delegates the impacts of their decisions on the business including key indicators such as cash flow. We will also advise individual teams about the quality of their decisions & team working.
