Clearly Business Game

Business Simulation Game

Course length: 2 days

An alternative to the traditional Finance for Non Finance Managers course. Teams are given a business to run and need to decide on the financing, the level of investment and resources to use, their cash flow and the impact on profits of these decisions. The game is played in rounds and uses a ‘business board’ so that participants can plot their performance. At the end of each round a set of accounts will be prepared by each team to record their performance. We can model the statements that each team produces on the internal reporting format used at your organisation.

As the game progresses we will introduce the idea of ratio analysis and get teams to produce basic ratios in addition to the outputs above. There will be some formal teaching at the start of the course to introduce delegates to basic accounting concepts and financial statements. There is a competitive element to the game but this is controlled through the intervention and assistance of the presenters, and teams are encouraged to focus on their own performance.

Course content:

  • To provide Business Managers with the form, content and terminology of basic Financial Statements
  • To enable Business Managers to understand a set of Financial Statements
  • To introduce Business Managers to basic ratio analysis
  • To help managers appreciate how different business functions interact
  • To focus on team working
  • To relate the theory to the internal reports used at your organisation
